INFORMATION
In addition to lower volumes and prototypes being available, other advantages of machines plastic products over molding include:
- Certain parts are difficult to mold due to size or certain thread patterns.
- Materials can be used that can not be molded
- Lower tooling costs than molding
- Machined parts can be produced with lower residual component stresses and more consistent properties throughout the produced part
- Closer tolerances may be achieved with machining
- More flexibility designing parts
- Changes are easier with machining
- Better lead times
- No draft angles for machined parts
- Machined parts will not have some of the undesirable attributes of molded parts (gate scars, weld lines, parting lines, ejector marks, flash or “skin” effects, etc.)
